Are you ready to move? If so, this worksheet may be helpful in creating a budget and getting resources in place before your move.Apartment Application Fee(s) – You are responsible for any application, deposit and/or move-in fees. Deposit – You are responsible for any deposit charge at your new unit. Utility Deposits/Start-Up Costs – Switching your service and connecting the phone. Movers – You are responsible to pay for any moving expenses you may incur. Vehicle Rental – You are responsible for any charges associated with renting a vehicle to move your belongings. Gas and other Travel Costs – You are responsible to pay for gas or other travel costs associated with your move. New Furniture and/or Appliances – Any new furnishings or appliances you wish to purchase will be your responsibility. Storage Space – If you need a storage unit either to store items during your search or due to lack of space in your new unit, you will be responsible to pay for them. Cleaning Materials – Any costs associated with purchasing cleaning supplies to either clean your old unit or new unit will be your responsibility. Carpet Cleaning – In some cases, you may need to hire a cleaning company or rent a machine to clean the carpets at your old or new unit. These costs are your responsibility. Time Off from Work – You may need to take time off from work to move, complete Section 8 paperwork and/or attend a briefing meeting. You will not be compensated for time off by HAP. Rent “Overlap” – Sometimes Section 8 participants move into a new unit before the lease at their old unit has ended. In this case, you will be expected to pay for the full rental amount until your subsidy begins. Childcare Changes – If your childcare provider changes due to your move you will be responsible for any difference in costs. School Registration – You will need to have on hand all necessary documents (birth certificates, social security cards) if you need to enroll your child in a new school.
