The Housing Authority of Portland determines the amount of monthly subsidy your household will receive. The amount of subsidy your household is eligible for is based on several factors, including your annual income, your family size, the amount of deductions you qualify for, etc. The subsidy is calculated so that a family renting an average unit will pay 30% of their adjusted income towards rent and utilities. However, the family has the option to rent an above-average unit (or a larger unit) and pay the difference in rent -- up to a cap of 70% of their adjusted gross income. A tenant's portion of the rent and utilities will ALWAYS be a minimum of 30% of the household's adjusted gross income, but NEVER more than 70% of their adjusted gross income. For more detailed information, see our information page on Subsidy Standards. |
