The HAP 504 Disability Advisory Board
("504" refers to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973)
WHAT IS HAP'S 504 DISABILITY ADVISORY BOARD?
The 504 Disability Advisory Board serves the Applicants and Participants in programs of the Housing Authority of Portland. The majority of Board members experience disabilities. Other members are advocates or agency representatives.
WHAT DO THEY DO?
The Board's role is to advise the Housing Authority of Portland in development of policies and procedures to assure non-discrimination based on disability in programs, services, and activities. They regularly meet to
- provide on-going evaluation of subsidized housing programs and facilities, with special attention to access;
- review policies and procedures affecting people with disabilities;
- act as a "sounding board" for consumer concerns and interests; they liaison and mediate solutions [concerning disabilities] between the Housing Authority of Portland and the public;
- provide disability awareness education for agencies and the public.
WHEN DO THEY MEET?
The 504 Board meets quarterly. Meetings in 2007 are scheduled for March 8, June 14, September 13 and December 13. Meetings are held from 1:30 - 3:30 pm at HAP's New Market West building located at 135 SW Ash Street in downtown Portland. The public is welcome to attend any 504 Board meeting. The agenda permits public comment on issues of a general, non-individually specific nature. The agenda changes each month, based upon the most critical needs at that time. A copy of the agenda and reasonable accommodation are available upon 48-hour advance request.
