Nathan Teske Joins Housing Authority Board; Board Elects Jeff Bachrach Chair
PORTLAND, Ore. – December 13, 2006 – Nathan Teske, El Programa Hispano program manager for Catholic Charities, has been appointed to the Housing Authority of Portland’s (HAP) Board of Commissioners. Teske fills one of the two Gresham seats on the commission.
El Programa Hispano provides a comprehensive array of social and mental health services to low-income Latinos who speak little or no English and live in the Portland area.
“Serving on HAP’s board allows me to deepen the community work I have done in the East County for the past six years,” Teske said. “I have a passion for finding housing solutions that help people at lower income levels improve their lives. I am very excited fulfilling this mission on HAP’s board.”
In addition to his involvement with El Programa Hispano, Teske is a member of the Rockwood Weed & Seed Steering Committee and serves as chair of the Rockwood Weed & Seed Neighborhood Restoration Committee. He also gained broad experience working with Latino youth as “Futuros” department director for the Oregon Council for Hispanic Advancement (OCHA).
Kandis Brewer Nunn, HAP’s board chair, said, “Nathan’s knowledge of East County, its residents, and their affordable housing challenges will help us tremendously as we determine the best ways to assist with the various redevelopment efforts underway.”
2006-2007 HAP Board of Officers
The HAP Board has elected officers for the upcoming year. Jeff Bachrach will serve as chair, Lee Moore as vice chair, and Catherine Such as treasurer. Kandis Brewer Nunn, chair since 2004, will be Chair Emeritus until the end of her term in 2007.
“I’m looking forward to continuing the progress HAP has made in using housing development to revitalize entire neighborhoods,” Bachrach said. “There is tremendous potential to leverage our affordable housing investment with public private partnerships that extend the benefits to an even greater number of citizens.” Bachrach is a lawyer specializing in land use development and real estate transactions.
