Trenton Terrace Senior Housing

Northwest Housing Alternatives
opens new homes for seniors at New Columbia in January

Active and independent seniors have an opportunity for brand-new, affordable housing with one of the best addresses in New Columbia.

Northwest Housing Alternatives, which builds and rehabilitates affordable housing for Oregonians earning low incomes, is putting the finishing touches on Trenton Terrace, a 66-unit affordable housing complex that will soon be home to as many as 80 residents age 62 or older. The three-story complex is located directly across from McCoy Park, the signature community gathering spot in North Portland’s New Columbia neighborhood. Easy access to public transportation, a local grocery store, and a nearby community center makes the location perfect for today’s senior on the go.

Designed to meet the specific needs of seniors, Trenton Terrace will offer some services and programs of interest to seniors, but it is not assisted living. Prospective residents are likely to be seniors in the community who are currently living in an apartment, are downsizing from a home, or have family in the area.

The affordability and accessibility of units, and the surrounding vibrant and diverse community, are inviting features for seniors. Trenton Terrace is built to promote energy efficiency — which keeps ongoing costs low for residents — and incorporates the use of environmentally-friendly materials to make the complex a healthier place in which to live.

“HAP was looking for community partners who could bring specific expertise to different pieces of New Columbia to help make it a complete community,” says Martha McLennan, Northwest Housing Alternatives executive director. “HAP’s vision is consistent with our desire to provide exceptional and affordable housing for our community’s elders.  Trenton Terrace residents will pay just 30 percent of their income in rent, no matter what their income might be.”

For more information about opportunities for senior living at Trenton Terrace, visit Northwest Housing Alternatives website or call at 503-654-1007. Northwest Housing Alternatives was founded in 1982, and today provides homes to more than 2,100 people in 14 Oregon counties.
