Steve Rudman brings 25 years of experience in community systems, planning and development to his position at the Housing Authority of Portland. Before joining HAP in July 2001, Rudman served as director of the City of Portland's Bureau of Housing and Community Development. During his nine-year tenure there, Rudman redesigned a housing delivery system that developed more than 10,000 units for Portland residents. During that time he also collaborated with public and private sector partners on housing, economic development and neighborhood improvement projects that leveraged a combined investment of more than $200 million. Rudman also served as executive director of the Southeast Uplift Neighborhood Program, where he built a comprehensive support system for 22 neighborhood associations, and has served as chair of the board of directors for REACH Community Development Inc. He currently lectures in the School of Urban Studies and Planning at Portland State University. Rudman earned his master's degree in public policy studies from Claremont Graduate University in Claremont, Calif., and his bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pa. In 1996, he attended Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Mass., as a Fannie Mae Foundation fellow. While there, he participated in the school's program for senior executives in state and local government. Rudman follows Executive Director Denny West, who held the position for 10 years before retiring in June 2001.
